STEP ONE: Hang the trap. Using the loop at the top of the trap, hang the trap about 10"-12" directly above your plant (a string taped to the ceiling, or tacked to two opposing walls is perfect), making sure that the thread from the bottom of the trap has plenty of "tangle length" to spare. Gently entangle the bottom thread in the effected part of the plant - often the "top" or "crown" of your plant. Take care that the sticky part of the trap does NOT come in contact with your plant. Carefully remove the wax paper protection from the trap (save this for later when its time to dispose of the trap).
STEP TWO: Leave it. Over the following 2-10 days there should be a discoloring of the trap's sticky card, starting from the bottom and slowly traveling up the sticky card towards the Red Band (get it? Red Band Spider Mite Traps™). This discoloration is the amassed remains of thousands of spider mites. If the spider mites are the "red" variety, then the discoloration will be reddish. If the spider mites are the two-spotted variety, then the discoloration will be grayish. When the discoloration gets close to the red band at the top of the trap, its time to dispose of the trap and hang a new one.

STEP THREE: Throw it away. Wrap the wax paper that came with the trap (a paper towel or a piece of newspaper will do fine if the wax paper isn't nearby) around the sticky part of the trap, covering up all those spider mites. Carefully disentangle the hanging thread from your plant and then cut the trap loop off of the string you used to hang the trap. Throw the trap away - not in the compost (wrong place for the mite eggs). If you need to hang another trap, see "STEP ONE".
